Welcome Aboard The Historical

"MV OKANAGAN"

The "OKANAGAN" was the last vessel built and launched from Vernon onto Lake Okanagan by the "Great Canadian

Pacific Railway" February 11th, 1946. She was decommissioned May 31/1972 after serving communities

along Lake Okanagan. Her job was to push two barges, one strapped to each side of her loaded with

railroad cars, delivering commercial goods until highways were built to handle transport trucks.

The 110 foot vessel is a one solid weld hull to include all decks and cabins and when fully dressed

weighed 205 tons.

The historical tug "OKANAGAN" now permanently rests at the north end of Lake Okanagan on

the Okanagan Indian Band Reseve #1. The vessel is incorporated into a new and innovative,

low impact, eco friendly private campground. The resort is called

"Meadows Edge Recreation Resort"

where

"yurts"

are used as the primary dwelling
